origin and meaning of 'kimi'

aunty Gwen had asked us in the retreat ice breaker to intro the meaning of our names and give an action that represents it.

and I'm like: otosan and mom chose it cos its not too Japanese yet not too western, in fact, my name was supposed to be miki....

so i ended up sharing the Chinese meaning.. boo hoo... :(
In this world, only 2 ppl ever got to use my chinese name. no one else, not even my teachers and certainly not relatives...
NO, i'm not saying what it is... very tacky name

a friend once told me that her friend was sooooo crazy over the name kimi, they thought it was a really cool name and wanted to adopt it!!!

even more embaressing: i remember a senior who repeatedly (and misguidedly) compared my kayak speed to kimi raikkonen...

okay, i'm flattered. but was also kinda pressured. my name puts ideas into ppl's heads. i'm not as pretty or cool or talented.

anyway i checked it up, it actually means " she who is without equal" and is on 247 out of 530 ppl's favorite name lists!!!
